A Faithful Friend in Bangladesh

Following a cyclone a number of years ago, an mission team reached out to those who had been badly affected. Through this, they met Aron, a local weaver. Aron wove lungis, a skirt-like piece of cloth worn by men in rural Bangladesh. He earned about $3 a day for 12 hours' work.

As the friendship developed, Aron learned that the team's motivation for helping him and others like him was their love for God. He met with the team over months to study God's Word, although like many in the country, he is illiterate.

One day Aron responded to the Word and took a public step of faith. Then he faithfully reached out to many of his fellow workers, and today there is a substantial number of followers in this area, including his wife and children. A few months ago, Aron's employer fired him because of his faith, and this has left him and his family in a difficult situation. There was a cost to his obedience.

Aron now is deciding whether to start a tea shop or pull a rickshaw. His decision is based on which will be most useful in reaching others with the Good News. Praise God for Aron and his family and their faith.

Prayer Points
1. Pray for the decision Aron will make about his job, and pray that what he does will sustain his family and help him share his faith.

Bosnia: 25th Anniversary of the Church in Mostar

The evangelical church in Mostar is one of the oldest in all of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Recently, it celebrated its 25th anniversary! In that country, that is a long history for a church! One missionary says: “The church started its work eight years before the war. During the war, the believers were scattered and the building heavily damaged. But some faithful believers had a vision to rebuild the place. They worked hard in spite of many difficulties. Now, the building is completely restored. In addition to the local church, it also accommodates the Bible school and training center for current and future church leaders.” All of the former and current pastors of the church were invited to the celebration of the anniversary. Their stories about the work in Mostar were reminders of God’s faithfulness. The Owner of the church, the Beginner and the Completer of its work, is the Lord!

Prayer Points
1. Praise God for His faithfulness to the church of Mostar.
2. Pray for growth, both numerical and spiritual, of the church in this next season.
3. Pray for good ongoing working relationship between missionaries there and the church.

Turkey: Founder of local Church on TV

Recently, prime-time TV talk show in Turkey invited several Islamic scholars to discuss the Gospel of Barnabas, which some Muslims (but not all) believe to be genuine. During the show, someone pointed out that it wasn't right to be discussing these things without a Christian present to defend their position. So they went looking for someone to defend the Christian view, and ended up inviting the founder of a local church in Istanbul. The program went well despite the fact that they gave far more time to the Muslim guests to speak than to the pastor. But he was also able to promote his just-published book on apologetics.

Prayer Points
1. Pray that this interview will stir many to seek for truth.
2. Pray that this would open more doors for the pastor to interact with Islamic scholars.
3. Pray that his book on apologetics would have a wide readership and provide opportunities to discuss the truth about Jesus.

We need a prayer culture, not a prayer meeting

“Clearly the Lord is raising up a prayer standard to challenge the darkened, decadent soul of the age. A culture of prayer is what is needed, not a prayer meeting. The Muslims have a prayer culture, but the Christian church has a prayer meeting. How will a nice little prayer meeting contend with the Muslim prayer culture? A great shift is occurring, and as it does, the tongue of fire and the move of God will turn the masses to Jesus, and the cry will be heard once again ‘what must we do to be saved?’” —Lou Engle

I have been musing on Lou Engle’s words as the Hajj has been going on these last days at Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Looking at video of the millions of pilgrims there and watching their efforts to gain approval from God has challenged me again about the prayer culture we need so that we can see breakthrough in this part of the world. Continue on praying with us, as these pilgrims return home, that in searching for truth they would find Jesus. I heard one pilgrim interviewed today, as he left Mecca, saying this had not lived up to his expectation. Today more than any other time, people have the opportunity, through the Internet, cable TV, radio, DVDs and Bluetooth devices, to hear the Good News of Jesus. Pray, also, for Muslims to have dreams and visions from God.
